August 2018 GCSE Results

Students at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Skelmersdale are celebrating the many outstanding successes from their recent GCSE examinations. Once again, our students have demonstrated great determination and resilience in the face of an increased level of challenge, with a large number of subjects moving to new, more rigorous examinations. Standards in English and Maths have yet again increased and there are notable successes across a wide range of subjects.

There has been a significant increase in the number of grade 9s awarded across a range of subjects throughout the school, an outstanding achievement! May Shaw demonstrated exceptional academic performance in Science with grade 9s in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, placing her in the top 3% of students nationally in these subjects, whilst also achieving a grade 7 or above in a total of 10 qualifications.

Other notable student performances include Lily Adams with grade 9s in Religious Education and History and a total of 8 subjects at grade 7 or above. Michael Moss also reached the highest grade 9 in Religious Education alongside excellent grades in Maths and History. Head Girl Caitlin Forster rounded off an exceptional year with 10 of the highest GCSE grades at 7 or above. A number of other students achieved a range of grade 7s and 8s including Lloyd Murray, Emily Bridges, Emma Byrne, Ellie Maddocks, Paige Maddocks, Megan Barwise, Hannah Jones, Robert Shaw, Matthew Smith and Dorian Olechnowicz, amongst many others.

Our Lady’s is extremely proud to have been re-accredited in July 2018 with the National Award as a Flagship School for Inclusion; we celebrate the achievements of all our students regardless of their ability, some of whom have successfully overcome very challenging barriers to learning.

As a specialist Engineering College we encourage students to undertake a range of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) related subjects and are exceptionally pleased to report excellent attainment in Maths, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Technology subjects.

Alison Knight, Headteacher at Our Lady’s, is delighted with the achievements of our Year 11 students. She commended the students and staff on their hard work and efforts and wished the class of 2018 the very best of success in their post-16 choices.

Kath Gresty, Chair of Governors, endorsed the Headteacher’s comments and expressed her thanks on behalf of the governing body as she recognised the outstanding success of our school community in supporting our young people to achieve the best possible outcomes.
