Students at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Skelmersdale are celebrating outstanding success in this year’s GCSE examinations, which includes a record smashing 31 Grade 9s across 13 subjects and 35 Grade 8s across 18 subjects. Once again students have demonstrated great determination and resilience in the face of the increased level of challenge, to achieve the very highest grades 8 and 9 in Maths, English Language, English Literature, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Combined Science, Engineering, RE, History, Geography, Citizenship, Music, PE, Food, Photography, Art & Design, Graphics, Textiles, Spanish, Japanese and Russian.

Individual outstanding achievements include Ella Blanchard, a highly gifted musician, who achieved 13 GCSEs at grade 7 or above with a fabulous 6 grade 9s including English, Maths & Science! Shannon Roughley, Marta Kupca and Agnieszka Gryguc also achieved a commendable 4 grade 9s within their impressive range of up to 13 higher grade passes.

Other notable student performances include: Essa Youssouf with grade 9s in English, Citizenship and RE and a total of 10 subjects at grade 7 or above; Natasha Owen who achieved a grade 9 in Food Preparation & Nutrition and a range of grade 8s in Citizenship, History, Chemistry and PE; Joe Cullen who achieved grade 9s in Citizenship, History & RE; Jessica Doyle who achieved 12 GCSEs, the majority of which are at Grade 7 & 8. A number of other students achieved a range of grade 7s and 8s including Cavan Hegarty, Holly Parker, Olivia Parrington, Zack Reynolds, Craig Teevan and Lewis Willan.

Our Lady’s is proud of our National Inclusion Quality Award at flagship status which was once again re-validated at the highest level in July this year, and we celebrate the achievements of students of all abilities, some of whom have overcome very challenging barriers to learning to achieve their success.

As a specialist Engineering College we encourage students to undertake a range of STEM related subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) and are exceptionally pleased to report excellent attainment in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Technology subjects.

Alison Knight, Headteacher at Our Lady’s, is delighted with the achievements of the Class of 2019. She commended the students and staff on their hard work and efforts, thanked parents for all their support and wished all students the very best of success in their post-16 choices.

Kath Gresty, Chair of Governors, endorsed the Headteacher’s comments and thanked everyone on behalf of the governing body. ‘I am delighted with the results achieved by all our young people. They are a testament to the tremendous hard work and efforts of our students, staff and parents, working together to ensure that the young people of Our Lady’s achieve their very best’.
