House System

Promoting Happiness and Community Cohesion

Our 5 Houses are named after famous engineers and we operate a vertical tutor group system. Until this academic year this has meant that each tutor group consisted of children from all year groups. This year to support Year 11 throughout their GCSE year and to ensure that their specific needs are met Year 11 students have been placed into two Year 11 forms in each House. All other forms are composed of Year 7- 10 students. Our House system engenders a sense of belonging and breaks down barriers between students in different year groups. Students take on the roles of mentors and buddies for one another. There is a strong sense of community, responsibility and love for one another. Children are encouraged to develop leadership skills and are confident in expressing themselves. Each tutor group makes pledges each year to help us improve our school community in a variety of ways, including: charity, friendships, volunteer work and pledges to be better people. During form time students take part in acts of collective worship and participate in PSHE activities to support their social, moral, spiritual and cultural development. Whilst we expect all our students to perform at the highest standards academically we also see our responsibility as the ‘Development of the whole child.’

Overall resposibility for pastoral support is with Mrs T Poskitt (Assistant Headteacher)
