Examinations
Our Lady Queen of Peace prides itself on its examinations processes and procedures. Throughout the academic year students will undergo assessments under examination conditions in preparation for their GCSEs.
The intention of the Department of Education and Ofqual is to return to the carefully designed and well-established exam arrangements. It is their view that exams are the best and fairest way of assessing what students know and can do.
Examinations in Years 7-10
In Years 7-10, students sit linear exams at the end of the academic year.
Examinations in Year 11
Year 11 have mock examinations in December and sit the final exams for their GCSEs and vocational courses in May and June.
Examination results are published mid-August. Some students may sit additional external exams at other times of the year.
Preparing for Examinations
Prior to an exam series, students are given a revision list and are required to do revision work at home. Students are taught how to revise in subject areas and are advised to take part in ‘active revision’ such as creating mind-maps, cue cards, completing practice papers and using mark schemes or doing web-based questions.
Examinations test the cumulative curriculum knowledge of pupils, their ability to apply their knowledge, skills and understanding. If students work hard, they will achieve highly in their examinations.
Exam Board Regulations
All examinations are run by the rules and regulations laid down by the joint awarding bodies. All schools must adhere to these rules. These rules exist to ensure fair and equal conditions for all students. All instances of misconduct will be reported to the examination board.
