The internet holds a wealth of resources for young people to communicate and connect and be creative in a variety of ways. It is extremely important that everybody does what they can to ensure students are safe and secure online, whilst at home. We work to ensure that our students are taught how to use the internet responsibly and safely.

In School

We are extremely vigilant in ensuring our learners are aware of the dangers of online interactions. Our Personal Development curriculum ensures that our students are aware of how to stay safe online and this is also covered in our KS3 Computing curriculum.

Parents / Carers

As parents/carers and teachers, we have an important role in ensuring children are given the tools in order to stay safe online. Doing this will significantly reduce the risk of cyber-bullying, exploitation, and radicalisation. At Our Lady Queen of Peace, we take this responsibility very seriously and we provide curriculum time to educate students on the risks of being online as well as having appropriate filters and systems in place.

Five Top Tips for keeping young people safe online.

  1. PRIVACY
    • All social media accounts should be set to private.
  2. PERSONAL INFORMATION
    • Ensure our social media bio does not contain any personal information, including age, full name or school you attend.
  3. FRIENDS AND FOLLOWERS
    • Ensure all friends and followers are people you know. Do not accept strangers or people you are not sure of.
  4. ONLINE GAMING
    • Do not respond to private messages from anyone you do not know.
  5. UNCOMFORTABLE
    • Anything that you are not sure of or uncomfortable with report it. Whether it be to parents, teachers, friends or CEOP, ensure you speak to someone and get their advice.
