Pupil Premium Cohort
Pupil Premium makes up approximately 40% of our student population. The school receives funding specifically to improve education outcomes for disadvantaged pupils as evidence shows that disadvantaged children generally face additional challenges in reaching their potential at school. Our school mission statement ‘In Christ We Grow’ ensures that ‘as a learning community, we live out our Mission Statement striving for excellence through caring, sharing and achieving’ is lived out in our vocation to support our vulnerable students.
Our Ambition for Pupil Premium Students
Our intention at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Engineering College is that all students, irrespective of their background or the challenges they face, have high aspirations, learn a ‘knowledge-rich’ curriculum which has breadth and depth, make good progress and achieve high levels of progress across the curriculum. The aim is that they get the qualifications they need so that they are ready for the next stage of education, training or employment.
High-quality teaching is at the heart of our approach, with a focus on areas in which disadvantaged students require the most support. This is proven to have the greatest impact on closing the attainment gap and at the same time will benefit the non-disadvantaged pupils in our school.
Our Objectives Are:
- To construct an ambitious curriculum designed to give PP learners the knowledge and cultural capital they need to succeed in life
- To ensure that every PP child realises their full potential- socially, morally, academically & spiritually
- To support and develop students’ experiences in school in order to ensure high levels of attendance
- To promote positive attitudes to learning and high expectations for the behaviour and conduct of PP learners
- To provide opportunities in Key Stage 3 to raise levels of literacy and numeracy and consequently, close the gap
- To ensure pupils’ curriculum experience allows for ‘breadth & depth’ at KS3
- To raise levels of progress and attainment enabling Key Stage 4 students to achieve a positive Progress 8 residual in their GCSEs
- To raise literacy and numeracy levels and enable Key Stage 4 students to achieve a minimum of grade 4 in English and Maths
- To provide opportunities for pupils to exceed expected progress in all subjects
- To provide additional intervention programmes which increase students' access to the curriculum
- To provide strategies which raise vulnerable students' confidence and self-belief, enabling them to become confident learners and a valued part of the school community
- To ensure that PP learners are ready for the next stage of education, employment or training.
Our work is research based using the EEF as a guide to inform us but also using our own knowledge and evidence of what works for the students in our school.
